OPPORTUNITY
Virginia Repertory Theatre is a not-for-profit professional theater headquartered in downtown Richmond, and one of the largest performing arts organizations in Central Virginia. The theater recently celebrated the 70th anniversary of its founding in Hanover County in 1953 as Barksdale Theatre. In 2012, after over a decade of sharing one staff, Barksdale Theatre and Theatre IV merged to form Virginia Rep.
Virginia Rep’s mission is to “Entertain, challenge and uplift our communities through the power of live theatre.” The company programs a mix of classic and new programming each season; this summer they are closing the 2026 season with a production of Come from Away. The 2026-27 season productions can be found here.
Virginia Rep has an annual budget of approximately $5,000,000. There is a full-time staff of 32, and a part-time staff of 15. The company performs at the November Theatre in downtown Richmond and at the Hanover Tavern. The subscription season includes performances at the November, Theatre Gym, and Hanover Tavern. Additionally, VARep stages the TYA Jessie Bogese Family Season at the November. VARep also offers the Theatre Gym and other venues free of charge to two or three other local theatres annually.
