Christopher Mossey (he/him) has built his career supporting artists and strengthening arts and education institutions. For more than 25 years, he has worked from within and as a consultant to arts organizations to amplify reach, revenue and impact, locally and worldwide.
Christopher was an executive at two of the most influential performing arts conservatories in the world: The Juilliard School (1999-2018) and the Curtis Institute of Music (2019-2022). Christopher was the co-founder of Juilliard Global Ventures (JGV), an initiative designed to expand the know-how of Juilliard worldwide and develop earned revenue in the consumer market. Under JGV, Christopher co-led the creation of the Tianjin Juilliard School, Juilliard’s first and only branch campus, which opened in 2022 in the Yujiapu Free Trade Zone in Tianjin, China; launched an international K-12 performing arts performing arts appreciation curriculum through a first-of-its-kind collaboration across 25 countries with Nord Anglia Education; and with a collective of artists, writers, and producers, released new educational products in the Apple App Store and in EdX for performing arts enthusiasts worldwide.
An integral part of Juilliard’s senior leadership for many years, Christopher developed and produced numerous educational, artistic, and public relations programs for the school. Highlights of this work include Juilliard’s yearlong centennial celebration in 2005; strategic planning for and launch of Juilliard’s Historical Performance degree program; tours of the Juilliard Orchestra and Juilliard Dance; and artistic and educational programs with artists such as John Adams, Alfred Brendel, William Christie, and Pierre Boulez. His work in government relations in China led to visits to Juilliard from Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong and First Lady of China Madame Peng Liyuan, with whom Juilliard announced the Tianjin Juilliard School in September 2015. From 2011-17, he created a series of over 15 exchanges and workshops with young musicians in São Paulo, Brazil, where Juilliard was a partner with Santa Marcelina Cultura, the U.S. Consulate in São Paulo, and the State Secretariat of Culture in São Paulo. From 2019 to 2022, Christopher served as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at the Curtis Institute of Music. Along with the President of Curtis, he closed an anonymous $20+ million endowment gift that enabled the conservatory to guarantee that every student admitted to the school could attend without incurring financial debt.
Christopher relocated to São Paulo, Brazil in 2022. From 2022-23, he served as Director of Institutional Development at the Museu Judaico de São Paulo. Through his São Paulo-based independent consultancy, CJM EduCultural, Christopher has served as the Executive Director of Ilumina, an innovative São Paulo-based artist development collective, and has completed projects for the Orchestra of St. Luke’s (New York, NY), the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (Los Angeles, CA), home of the Grammy Awards; the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (São Paulo), the Orquestra do Estado de São Paulo (São Paulo), Cultura Artística (São Paulo) and Musicarium (Joinville, Brazil).
Born in Connecticut and raised in Florida, Christopher earned a Ph.D. in the history and theory of music from Brandeis University and a bachelor of music degree from Florida State University. Now a citizen of Brazil, Christopher resides in the Vila Madalena neighborhood of São Paulo.
